Coronavirus disease “COVID-19” is a type of coronavirus that has caused a global epidemic. The disease causes respiratory diseases and symptoms include pneumonia and bronchitis. It can be captured by viral particles and detected by cough, difficulty breathing and fever. These symptoms can occur up to 14 days after exposure. It was first reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) on December 31, 2019 in Wuhan, China, as pneumonia of unknown cause. Further research led WHO to declare a global health emergency on 30 January 2020. Prime Minister Scott Morrison activated a contingency plan on February 27 when he entered a pandemic phase. On 12 March 2020, the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. The outbreak has impacted important aspects of daily life, including travel, work, entertainment such as sporting events, cancelled concerts and festivals, education and school closures, the economy, financial markets and fears of recession.
