States That Legalized Sports Betting 2020

Oklahoma Gaming is dominated by Native American entities and most don`t seem inclined to accept sports betting until other major issues are resolved with the state government. Two tribes entered into sports betting deals in 2020, but these were later declared invalid, as part of a broader conflict between competing interests and the government. A bill that would have given the state`s indigenous tribes exclusive control of online and retail betting passed the House but collapsed after senators amended it to include racetracks and professional sports teams. Louisiana Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Johns recently suggested that a Jan. 15 launch date might be achievable for mobile betting. To date, Indiana has made the fifth-highest number of bets in the United States, largely due to its quick decision to approve a regulated sports betting model. There are currently 13 sports bets in Indiana. The state has been live for online betting since October 2019, just five months after the Indiana legislature passed the first bill. Delaware launched legal sports betting in 2018, less than a month after the Supreme Court ruling. Online sports betting is legal, although there is no government online sports betting. All bets on state college teams are prohibited. Prior to the creation of live betting, bets were limited to being placed before matches, and some sports betting could allow certain bets to be placed at half-time.

Another bill was introduced in January 2019. Missouri had implemented several sports betting laws in recent years, but the state has yet to take any action.

They have been blocked at the state legislative level. New York passed a law in 2013 that legalized statewide sports betting, but the state didn`t open its first official bookmaker until July 2019. Mobile sports betting was introduced on January 8, 2022 and there are now nine live online sports betting in the Empire State. However, all betting on state college games and events, including betting on player accessories, is prohibited. Kansas legalized sports betting in 2022, after a legislative race in which it beat neighboring Missouri. Everyone has personal sports betting at at least one casino, while the state lottery and Rush Street Interactive (which owns PlaySugarHouse) operate seven outlets.
